Warroad Channel Project. Section 107. Detailed Project Report Warroad, Minnesota.

Abstract

In 1970 the city of Warroad began development of a recreational complex adjacent to Lake of the Woods at Warroad. The complex includes an inland marina basin which was excavated in 1972. However, the marina basin does not have navigable access to Lake of the Woods and has been idle since its excavation. On 12 May 1972, the Warroad City Council adopted a resolution requesting that the Corps study the feasibility of constructing an access channel from the marina basin to Lake of the Woods. A reconnaissance report dated 27 November 1974 concluded that construction of a marina access channel was feasible and recommended that a detailed project report be prepared. Channel alignment, foundation materials, hydraulic, economic, environmental, and archeological investigations were conducted for this study. An alternative channel alignment study; a cultural resources survey; and a report on the chemical, physical, and biological properties of the project area were done by private consultants. The other studies were done by Corps personnel.
