The Formation and Thermochemical Properties of Multiligand Complexes

Abstract

This research program constituted an investigation of the reactivity and formation of ions that are clustered by molecules. Results are reported for ion-molecule reactions involving sulfides, mercaptans, and dimethyl methylphosphonate with ionic species derived from water and argon. Rate coefficients were measured and product ions identified. Results are also reported for the competitive clustering of water and methanol onto a charged center, namely the potassium cation. The thermochemical parameters for clustering up to three ligands were determined. Relationships of the gas data to properties of condensed phase binary solvent systems is also discussed.
