Quantile Statistical Data Analysis.

Abstract

This paper presents some reasons why theoretical and sample quantile functions would be routinely used by contemporary statistical data analysts. Quantile methods are introduced in the context of the exponential distribution as a fit to the historically important life table data of Graunt (1661). Section titlers are: history of statistics and contemporary textbooks; quantile concepts; identification quantile function; identification quantile box plot; tail classification of probability laws; goodness of fit plots; IQQ plot; cumulative weighted spacings function D (u); quantile simulations and distribution of extreme values; comparison quantile function; nonparametric estimation of probability density; conclusion.
