Virtual Image Processor: A Prototype Implementation.

Abstract

A prototype virtual image processor has been developed for low-cost image processing applications, and has been implemented on three separate image processors using an IBM PC/AT as a host. Application programs make device-independent calls to the virtual image processor which is currently implemented as sets of library calls and linked into the porting of application programs at compilation time, which facilitated the porting of application software among different image processors. The virtual image processor can be used as an aid in the development of portable image processing software or as an educational tool for students new to the field of image processing.
