Ferromagnetic Mitigation of Electromagnetic Pulse Effects

Abstract

A realistic description of EMP shielding by ferromagnetic materials was developed in this paper. The attenuation of three pulses by a typical ferromagnetic shield is described. Moreover, the form of this description readily allows for the inclusion of specific properties of ferromagnetic materials (e.g. magnetic relaxations, domain structure and magnetostriction) in calculations of shielding effectiveness.
