Abstract
The use of a global positioning system receiver as a position and velocity reference in the flight testing of inertial navigation units is described. the method is freely available, in contrast to the generally used military ranges, and the accuracy is sufficient for the testing of medium accuracy aircraft inertial navigators. Use of an independent barometric altimeter as an altitude reference also described. Some consideration to the operational aspects of flight testing is given and improvements are suggested. The data acquisition system is based around a PC and this is briefly described.
