Development of a Low Noise 10 K Joule-Thomson Refrigeration System.

Abstract

This report summarizes work done on the development of a low noise Joule-Thomson, microminiature refrigeration system designed for 10 K operation. Topics discussed include: calculation of phase diagram of mixtures of certain hydrocarbon gases with nitrogen using the Benedict-Webb-Rubin equation of state, the set up of a magnetron-enhanced sputtering system to allow us to sputter a layer of adhesive on the glass substrates with a much better defined thickness than can be laid down using the older screen printing method, Redesign of H2 Refrigerator Test Stage, Redesign of Mixed Gas Heat Exchanger, Refrigerator Fabrication, Gas Cleaner.
