Hurricane Kate Storm Surge Data. Report 5.

Abstract

A summary of storm surge high-water mark, hydrograph, and wave data acquired during and subsequent to Hurricane Kate is presented. The data were obtained and assembled as part of a long-term research effort by the US Army Corps or Engineers to establish a quantitative data set with the objective of providing, in a series of documents, the data necessary for simulation and verification of numerical surge models. The data contained herein were obtained primarily by the US Army Engineer District, Mobile, with supplemental data from contributing agencies and institutions. Additional information is included in the form of photographs and a descriptive narrative to aid investigators in assessing the degree of importance of an individual measurement for the purpose of model verification.
