North Pacific Ocean. Gulf of Alaska, R/V Thomas G. Thompson: 1 February - 8 March 1967. STD Data Report,

Abstract

During Jan and Feb 1967, scientists aboard the R/V Thomas G. Thompson studied the thermohaline and density structures in the northern Gulf of Alaska. A total of 77 STD stations were taken, mostly north of latitude 53 N. The primary objectives of the field study were: 1) to investigate the mesoscale thermohaline and density structures associated with the subarctic gyre. 2) to determine the baroclinic flow and transports associated with this gyre. 3) to study the structure and extent of the upwelling dome related to the cyclonic circulation. 4) to investigate the magnitude and distribution of temperature inversions during the winter season. Keywords: Oceanographic data; Seawater; Salinity temperature depth; Ocean circulation.
