Sleep and Wakefulness Handbook for Flight Medical Officers

Abstract

This handbook was first published in 1982, and since then our understanding of sleep and wakefulness has advanced considerably. It is, therefore, opportune that a new handbook should now be published, and in preparing this edition we have been able to shift the emphasis much more toward the management of aircrew, and the problems they experience in coping with irregularity of rest and activity. Contents of this handbook include: Sleep and Wakefulness; Sleep Disorders; Circadian Rhythms; Hypnotics; Disturbed Sleep; Transport Operations; Sustained Performance. Keywords: Electroencephalography; Neuroendocrinology; Pharmacokinetics; NATO.
