Characterization of the Arc/Spark Excitation Sources Used in the Spectrometric Oil Analysis Program.
Abstract
A program is being conducted to improve the particle detection capability of the rotating disk electrode arc/spark source atomic emission spectrometer, i.e., the A/E35U-3. This spectrometer is the primary spectrometer used by over 200 of the tri-service Joint Oil Analysis Program (JOAP) Laboratories. Specifically, the A/E35U-3 emission spectrometer is used by 82 percent of the Air Force, 96 percent of the Navy, and 100 percent of the Army JOAP Laboratories. The initial investigation determined the factors which limit the particle detection capability of the A/E35U-3 spectrometers. The results of this investigation were delineated in NAEC-92-169, Spectrometer Sensitivity Investigations on the Spectrometric Oil Analysis Program.
