A Study to Determine the Appropriateness of Computerizing the Occupational Health Surveillance Program at Fort Devens, Massachusetts.

Abstract

In 1970 the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) was enacted. Its purpose was to insure safe and healthful working conditions for every working man and woman in the nation and to preserve our human resources. The Army uses the Occupational Health Surveillance Program to insure compliance with OSHA regulations. This study examines the Occupational Health Surveillance Program at an Army Installation in order to determine the appropriateness of computer application in the monitoring of civilian employee health status. The author examines the present system, determines it to be ineffective and inefficient, and makes recommendations to improve the system. Keywords: Health care; Management; Computerizing.
