Hazardous Waste Staff Assistance Survey, Pope AFB, North Carolina.

Abstract

At the request of HQ MAC/SGPB, the USAFOEHL conducted a hazardous waste staff assistance survey at Pope AFB from 1 Jun 87 to 11 Jun 87. The scope of this survey was to address hazardous waste management practices and explore opportunities for hazardous waste minimization. The survey team performed a shop-by-shop evaluation of chemical waste management practices as well as met with hazardous waste managers and engineers to discuss the hazardous waste program. The results of our survey showed that the hazardous waste program at PAFB is small and works fairly well. With some refinements, the base has an opportunity to have an excellent program. Environmental Coordinator (DEEV), has the responsibility of training shop personnel, inspecting accumulation sites, reviewing finalized manifests and maintaining records. DEEV is not involved with the specific day-to-day logistical details of the waste disposal. Keywords: Hazardous waste, Waste minimization, Waste reduction.
