Unstable Elastic Materials and the Visco-Elastic Response of Bars in Tension.

Abstract

The force elongation relation (or macroscopic response) of a bar of unstable elastic material is in general dissipative. This note shows that the macroscopic response may be of conventional viscoelastic type.
