Analysis of Model Fuels and Their Compatibility with Selected Elastomers. Part 1

Abstract

In this program, three diesel fuels and a diesel fuel-blending component have been analyzed initiative development of a diesel fuel compositional data base to be used to (a) design a repeatable quality, model compound based diesel fuel simulant for the evaluation of fuel elastomer compatibility, and (b) aid in understanding and ultimately controlling fuel elastomer interactions. The initial results of compatibility studies between fresh and thermally aged diesel fuels, and four elastomer-based fuel tank materials are summarized in this report. Keywords: Diesel fuel, Elastomer, Compatibility, Chemical analysis, Thermal Oxidation test.
