Lower Bounds on Acceleration Estimation Accuracy

Abstract

Estimation lower bounds on the accuracy of radar measurement of the acceleration of a moving target are derived. These bounds are expressed in terms of the sensor parameters, such as: range (or Doppler) and angle accuracies, track time, data rate (PRF), and an a priori estimate of the direction of the target acceleration. Simple scaling laws that allow the reader to trade off these parameters using curves presented in this report are also given. Keywords: Acceleration measurement; Sensor target geometry; Sensor parameters.
