Undrained Compressibility of Saturated Soil

Abstract

A series of equations for the bulk and constrained compressibility of undrained saturated granular soils are developed. Four sets of equations are developed, each set using a more complicated and realistic set of assumptions describing the soil behavior. A computational parametric analysis describes the applicability of the various assumptions as a function of soil parameters. The parametric analysis can be used to select the simplest suitable soil model applicable to a given problem. Keywords: Liquefaction; Soil mechanics; Mixture theory; Saturated soil; Compressive properties.
