Abstract

This 10 year long contract supported research on the physical oceanography of the Gulf Stream, which included several sub-projects; Research project topics included: A theoretical study of topographic Rossby Waves trapped over the continental slope in the Gulf Stream; Observations of topographic Rossby Waves and Gulf Stream meanders along the continental slope; An observational study of Gulf Stream deflection and meander energetics along the continental margin; Observations of the current structure and energetics of Gulf Stream fluctuations downstream of Cape Hatteras.
