Rust Converters

Abstract

To supplement the war against corrosion, the Chemistry Research Group, Materials, Fuels and Lubricants, Belvoir Research, Development and Engineering Center, is currently developing a rust converter suitable for military applications. After an initial screening process, the best commercially available rust converters were evaluated over field and laboratory pre-corroded cold rolled steel and galvanized panels. Following thorough laboratory and field examination, it was determined that currently available rust converters actually accelerated corrosion after a period of time, rather than retarding it. Keywords: Rust converters; Inhibitors; Corrosion.
