A Digital Circuit Design Environment.

Abstract

This thesis effort outlines the design and implementation of a graphics oriented digital design environment. This graphics environment provides the user with the tools to design digital circuits and then interface the user's circuit design with other tools (i.e., the Logic Simulator (LOGSIM) and Interconnect Expert (ICE) programs) . This research paper presents the reasoning for the development of such a tool. The development of this tool involves reviewing database designs, specifically those oriented toward Computer Aided Design (CAD), and human-computer interface considerations. The paper also presents a recap of the features necessary of the graphics oriented environment. The detailed design of the program is presented along with the description of the file structures, which provide the underlying database. The limitations encountered and the results of the testing are addressed. In addition, a comprehensive user's manual is include for the operation of the graphics oriented interface. Finally, a listing of recommended follow-on efforts are presented with the conclusions of this thesis effort.
