Drug Abuse Prevention. Further Efforts Needed to Identify Programs that Work.

Abstract

This report, requested by the Chairman and Ranking Minority Member of the House Select Committee on Narcotics Abuse and Control, discusses federal efforts in drug abuse prevention and education activities. Specifically, GAO was asked to determine how the federal government provides leadership and coordination, the federal agencies involved in these activities, how much they were spending and for what types of programs and activities, how much they were spending and for what types of programs and activities, and how programs and activities are evaluated for effectiveness.
