Enhancements to the Atmospheric Transmittance/Radiance Program FASCODE.

Abstract

This report describes software enhancements to the atmospheric transmittance/radiance program FASCODE which allows the user to easily and directly compare FASCODE calculations with measured spectra. The enhancements include the capability to: a Convert a file containing a measured spectrum into the format of a FASCODE calculation, b. Interpolate a spectrum in a FASCODE format onto an arbitrary frequency grid, c. Take the point-by-point difference between two FASCODE format files with the same frequency grid, and d. Plot the individual spectra and their difference on the same graph. Also included in the report are FASCODE calculations of transmittance versus range for a sensor operating at 30 km such as SCRIBE (Stratospheric Cryogenic Interferometer Balloon Experiment.) These calculations should aide interpreting the data from SCRIBE by indicating which region of the atmosphere the emission at different wavenumbers comes from. Keywords: Atmosphere models; Atmospheric transmittance; Atmospheric radiance.
