Material Instabilities in Solids.
Abstract
The principal investigator considered a number of mathematical problems that may help explain material failures in polymers and ductile metals. In particular, useful results were obtained concerning the initiation and dynamic growth of holes, the static instability and surface cracking of a single hole and the linearized stability of a free surface in an elastic material.
