Electromagnetic Shadowing by an Exponentially Distributed Rough Surface.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a shadowing function for a rough surface model that was based upon an exponential probability density function (pdf). This study had four critical parts: (1) Derive the characteristic function and the joint slope probability density function for a second-order exponential pdf. (2) Write a computer program to numerically compute the shadowing function for the second-order exponential pdf surface model. (3) Compare the shadowing function obtained with an 'exponential like' and Gaussian pdf. (4) Also, investigate a discrepancy in the mean-square total slope term.
