Amplification of Signals in Fiber Optics Using the Stimulated Raman Effect.

Abstract

This report details phase 1 of an Independent Exploratory Development project designed to investigate the feasibility of developing nonlinear optical-transmission lines. The report gives a brief review of the theoretical basis and a description of the experimental design, prototype setup, and results. The appendices serve as a reference for future investigators. Keywords: Stimulated Raman scattering, Optical-fiber transmission, Photons, Stokes, Anti-Stokes, and Pump wavelength.
