Symmetry and Global Bifurcation in Nonlinear Solid Mechanics.

Abstract

Applications of tools from group theory and nonlinear analysis to global bifurcation problems from solid mechanics are summarized. These include both topological and computational approaches for problems involving structural frameworks, strings, rods and 3-dimensional elastic bodies.
