Flight Safety Officer and Chiefs of Safety. X-Prefix.
Abstract
This report represents the results of a detailed Air Force occupational survey of the FLight Safety Officers and Chiefs of Safety utilization areas (X-Prefix). This report was prepared in response to a request generated by Headquarters, Air Force Inspection and Safety Center. The survey was requested to gather data which would help define education and training of all Flight Safety Officers. Job invention booklets were administered to wing and squadron Flight Safety Officers. The job structure analysis resulted in identification of one job with two variations. Data reflect job variations are centered around tasks associated with conducting A, B, and Interim vs Class C and minor accident investigations. Comparisons were made among groups, such as overseas vs CONUS, officer rank< MAJCOMS, and organizational level. No important differences were noted. The job satisfaction expressed by all Flight Safety Officers was very positive. Over 85 percent of the personnel indicated they performed interesting jobs and felt well utilized.
