Laser Gyro Attitude Control System Feasibility Study.

Abstract

This report briefly reviews the principles and properties of optical rate sensors. It then further describes some existing ring laser gyro systems and considers how their utilization would affect performance, cost and reliability of attitude control systems currently used or proposed for use in sounding rocket applications at the Air Force Geophysics Laboratory (AFGL). Keywords: Ring laser gyros, Optical rate sensors, Fiber optics gyroscope, Attitude control systems, Strapdown inertial systems, and Sounding rockets.
