Development of Core Data Set of the Officer Longitudinal Research Data Base

Abstract

The U.S. Army Research Institute has developed an Officer Longitudinal Research Data Base (OLRDB) to support a variety of research objectives. The Core Data Set was developed to provide and accurate list of former and current active-duty Army officers. Historical data were collected from the Officer Master Files for 1979 to 1986, the Separated Officer Master Files for 1979 to 1986, and the Defense Manpower Data Center Master and Loss File (loss records only) for 1970 to 1978. The usefulness of the resulting data set was demonstrated with an exploratory analysis of the retention of junior officers over an 8-year span.
