Abstract

Thesis traces the US decision that West Germany should be rearmed after World War II; the French struggle to accept that idea; the West German Government's attempts to trade soldiers for Sovereignty; and the path taken to convince the West German populace to accept new military forces. Covers the time frame from the end of WW II through 1955-1960.
