OMEGA Navigation North of Greenland: A User's Perspective.
Abstract
Omega is currently the only electronic navigation system available at high latitudes continuously for 24 hours every day. Use of Omega in the Arctic is limited to a small number of users just because of the small number of users who go there. With the Arctic increasing in scientific interest, adventure, and strategic importance the accuracy and capabilities of Omega in the Arctic must be evaluated. This paper discusses omega use, primarily north of Greenland, from the users perspective. The following companion paper discusses it from a technical perspective.
