High Hot-Hardness Gear Lubricant Evaluations. Phase 2.

Abstract

A WADD gear machine was used to evaluate the gear load-carrying capacities of three high hot-hardness gear materials, CBS-600, EX-00053, and VASCO X-2, at 74 and 218C (165 and 425F). Five NATO lubricants and three lubricant mixtures were evaluated at the 218C (425F) test condition. An increase in the gear load-carrying capacities of all five lubricants and three lubricant mixtures evaluated was obtained with CBS-600 and VASCO X-2 gears when compared with their equivalent 74C (165F) data using AMS-6260 gears. The EX-00053 test gears showed increases in load-carrying capacities for four of the five lubricants and two of the three lubricant mixtures when compared with respective 74C (165F) data using AMS-6260 gears. Keywords: Gear lubrication; High-temperature gears; Gear material; High-temperature gear load; Gear load-carrying capacity; Carrying capacity test method.
