An Analysis of Acquisition Strategies for the Turkish Armed Forces.

Abstract

This research was undertaken to perform analysis for alternative acquisition strategies for the Turkish Armed Forces. The main purposes were to determine advantages and disadvantages of each acquisition strategy and to find out the most promising acquisition strategy for the Turkish Armed Forces. Four acquisition strategies were discussed in the thesis with the emphasis on life cycle support. While each acquisition strategy has its own advantages and disadvantages, coproduction is shown to be the most promising acquisition strategy for Turkey. However, it is further shown that the advantages and disadvantages of each acquisition strategy strongly depends on the conditions of bidders' proposals and specialties of the system to be selected.
