LACV-30 (Lighter, Air Cushion Vehicle, 30-Ton) Fuel Lines.

Abstract

This technical report presents Belvoir RD&E Center analysis and recommendations for replacing the Lighter, Air Cushion Vehicle, 30-Ton (LACV-30) aluminum fuel line system with rubber hose. The original system was prone to corrosion and fuel leakage and had an expensive, sole-sourced replacement. Tests performed on rubber hose included salt spray, abrasion, and cold temperature resistance; fuel compatability (JP-4, 2 diesel fuel); and properties such as tensile strength, elongation, volume swell, specific gravity, peel adhesion. The new system and its hardware (low pressure SAE 30 R7 rubber hose and 6061 aluminum fittings) have the following advantages: increased durability, reduced down and installation times, improved safety, cost effectiveness, field repairable, and no need for special tools or skills.
