Hydrocarbon Fuel Spill Dispersion on Water: Literature Review

Abstract

The literature concerning the fate of light hydrocarbon fuel spills on water is reviewed. The review focuses on jet fuels and contains some discussion of gasoline, diesel, marine, and kerosene fuel spills. The two major fates of light hydrocarbon spill on water are evaporation and dissolution, although biodegradation, photooxidation, and adsorption onto suspended sediments can also be of some importance.
