Organizational Structure for a Mobile ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile) Combat Unit\

Abstract

President Reagan has directed the Air Force to continue with the development of the PEACEKEEPER missile utilizing the rail garrison (RG) concept of mobility. This has tasked the Strategic Air Command with developing an organizational structure that will create the optimal combat effectiveness for the system. This study reviews the present and past mobile systems and their organizational structures. This includes systems deployed by both the U.S. Army and Air Force. A proposed structure based on the analysis of those systems is presented for consideration. The deployment of rail garrison (RG) intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) systems within the Continental United States by the Strategic Air Command (SAC) has created a need for a review of current missile organizational structures to determine the most effective organizational structure for mobile missile systems. Keywords: Guided missiles.
