Nozzle Lip Effects on Gas Expansion into the Plume Backflow Region.

Abstract

The Direct Simulation Monte Carlo technique has been used to investigate the detailed flow structure in the region near the lip of a nozzle flowing to vacuum. The results for a range of nozzle lip thicknesses and shapes for argon are presented. Keywords: Monte Carlo, Rarefied gas dynamics, Plume, Nozzle flow, Contamination, Plume signature.
