Pilot Report: AFTI (Advanced Fighter Technology Integration) F-111

Abstract

The Advanced Fighter Technology Integration (AFTI) F-111 research program is designed to evaluate a new wing design called the Mission Adaptive Wing (MAW). The MAW has the ability to continuously change it's shape in flight. This article provides a non-technical overview of the program with emphasis on the flight test and future uses of the wing on bomber, transport, and fighter aircraft.
