The Role of Cytomegalovirus As a Cofactor in the Development of ARC-AIDS.
Abstract
This report displays the results of one year's longitudinal study of cytomegalovirus (CMV) as a candidate triggering cofactor in the development of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) in human immunodeficiency virus differentiate triggering from opportunistic roles of CMV in HIV-infected people. Saliva and urine specimens are being cultured in MRC-5 human fetal lung cells, white blood cells are being stored in DMSO for later revival and study, and plasma or serum specimens are being studied for CMV-specific IgG and IgM. Western blot (W.B.) analysis is being done on each subject to determine the patterns of antibody response to over 25 CMV antigens.
