Basic Mechanisms of Diesel Lubrication Correlation of Bench and Engine Tests.

Abstract

A newly designed reciprocating ball-on-flat apparatus is described. Reaction film formation by commercially available ZDDP additives were observed and their thicknesses measured by capacitance during the rubbing process. The film behaviour is related to its composition and the thermal stability and reactivity of the additives. Preliminary observation is made of the running-in process with cast-iron cylinder liners. The programme of work proposed for the coming year is detailed in the Appendix.
