Intensive Archaeological Survey, James Clements Airport, Bay County, Michigan,

Abstract

The project area is a proposed dike alignment, located in Sections 8 and 9 of Portsmouth Township (T13NR5E), Bay County, Michigan. The alignment circumscribes James Clements Airport, and measures approximately 8,000 feet in length by 150 feet in width. The total project area investigated is approximately 28 acres (113,320 square meters). Work completed for the project resulted in the location of four archaeological sites; of these, two appear to warrant further work to determine their eligibility for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The project was found not to impact the James Clements Airport Administration Building which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
