Application of the Hilbert Transform to Doppler Radar Signals from a Hypervelocity Gun

Abstract

A computer program is described that processes a Doppler radar signal to provide the position, velocity, and acceleration histories of a model in the barrel of a hypervelocity gun. The program uses the Hilbert transform as obtained via the Fourier transform. Algorithms for dealing with poor signal quality are described. Results from actual and simulated signals are presented. It is shown that the unique properties of the Hilbert transform result in a program that is fast, accurate, and easy to use.
