Charge Storage and Switching Phenomena in Metal Complexes.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to identify intramolecular charge separation and charge localization phenomena that can when incorporated into polymer materials provide the basis for molecular switching phenomena. The first year and a half of this work has been spent designing monomer molecules possessing unusual photophysical properties and determining the physical measurement technique to be exploited with the polymers. A unique multiple emitting Ru(II) compound containing the 2,2-dipyridylamine ligand has been identified and the photophysical properties measured. Keywords: Polymer pendent, Switching phenomena, ESR, Electrochemically generated, Multiple emitters, Photoselection.
