AT (Acetylene Terminated) Technology Transition.

Abstract

Formulations of two matrix resin candidate systems, ATB and ATS, supplied by the Air Force and formulated for improved toughness by the contractor, were screened via a neat resin evaluation study. The most promising formulations were prepregged on graphite fiber, fabricated into composite specimens, and subjected to an extensive composite mechanical properties evaluation. For each resin system, the optimum formulation was found to display significantly improved toughness and 400 F use capability. The optimum formulation for each resin was used to prepare a 25 pound batch of graphite fiber reinforced prepreg which was divided into 4 pound samples and distributed to various airframe and missile companies for evaluation. Keywords: Acetylene terminated resins; Toughened formulation; Composite materials evaluation; Hot/wet flex strength.
