The 33rd Fighter Group 'Fire from the Clouds.'

Abstract

The 33rd Fighter Group was a World War II Army Air Force P-40 unit that flew bomber escort, fighter sweep, defensive combat air patrol, and air-to-ground missions from a series of austere bases in Algeria, Tunisia, Pantelleria, Sicily, and Italy. This paper looks at the history of the 33rd Fighter Group during the time frame from January 1941 to February 1944. The purpose of the paper is to look at some of the problems the 33rd faced in the areas of training, logistics, and tactics and examine how the 33rd solved the problems.
