A Clinical Information System at the Naval Regional Medical Center, Orlando, Florida.

Abstract

This study develops a clinical information system at a Naval Regional Medical Center (NRMC) to enhance an outpatient clinic efficiency and effectiveness by providing clinical supervisors with update information for basing management decisions. The problem parameters focused on the appointment scheduling and follow-up, medical staff productivity and statistical reporting for an outpatient medical care delivery system at a NRMC. The study objectives addressed those elements to improve operational decision-making, to improve patient care delivery and to monitor physician workload. The study noted an increased efficiency and effectiveness by an improved patient accessibility to clinical services, a streamlined patient appointment system and better communications among the clinical elements through the automation of the hospital clinical information system.
