Preliminary Studies of NF3 +H2 Production of N2(A3 Sigma(+) U) in a Supersonic Flow.

Abstract

The Tetrafluorohydrazine has been used in reaction with Diatomic hydrogen and Deuterium to produce NF a1 Delta, NF b 1 Sigma and N2 A3 Sigma(+)u. The N2F4 is shock sensitive and not commercially produced. Nitrogen trifluoride, NF3 has been used in HF lasers as a fuel. By operating a conventional HF laser combustor at lower temperatures and less fuel, this study was designed to investigate the use of NF3 as a replacement for N2F4 in NF a1Delta and N2 A3 Sigma(+)u production. Both of these energy transfer agents are of interest in the area of chemical lasers as an energy pump for a suitable species such as IF or NO. The NF3 was not only used in the combustor and injected into the H2 stream, but was also injected directly into the flow field. Keywords: Metastable state; Excitation; Nitrogen; Nitrogen fluorides.
