Consolidation of the Munitions and Aircraft Maintenance Officer Career Fields.
Abstract
The arguments for and against combining the munitions and aircraft maintenance officer AFSCs(Air Force Specialty Codes) have been pursued since the early seventies. This study details the historical evolution of maintenance officer AFSCs from 1907 to the present, examines the arguments for and against this career field merger, analyzes these arguments, provides conclusions and recommends areas requiring further study. This analysis concluded the merger of the aircraft and munitions maintenance officer AFSCs at the company grade level was in the best interest of the Air Force and officers of the two career fields.
