The Counter Guerrilla Operations in Bolivia-1967

Abstract

The death of Ernesto 'Che' Guevara in Bolivia in 1967 led, among things, to a campaign of mystification, speculation, and that U.S. intervention was a key factor in the defeat of the guerrilla force led by 'Che' Guevara. Numerous articles worldwide did nothing to set the record straight and the role played by the Bolivian Armed Forces was never made clear. The fact is that the Bolivian Armed Forces, with all the limitations presented by training, manpower, and equipment, but with outstanding leadership, assumed its legitimate role in the fight against the guerrillas and rapidly became a force capable of meeting this new type of threat. This paper is an analysis of the counter guerrilla activities of the Bolivian Armed Forces and attempts to clear the record on the matter of U.S. intervention.
