Semantic Transformations for Natural Language Production.

Abstract

This thesis presents a technique for connecting the representations produced by a parsing and understanding component to an English language generation component. Transformations are applied to higher-order predicate calculus expressions to produce equivalent first-order forms suitable for driving the text generator. These transformations are expressed ad axiom schemata. Their adequacy is demonstrated by a paraphrase task. This task transforms higher-order expressions representing English queries into first-order expressions, and then these are used in the generation system to produce accurate English versions of the original queries. Keywords: First order predicate calculus; Higher order logic; Meaning representation; Natural language generation.
